Scripture

But I have calmed and quieted my soul— like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me. O Israel, put your hope in Adonai from this time forth and forever. - Psalm 131:2-3

Heart Thoughts

When my children were young I would pick them up and toss them all around in the air, they would laugh and enjoy it, for they trusted—they had faith in—their Abba (“father”). Even though they might have found themselves in unusual situations, like being upside down four feet above the floor with nothing supporting them (normally an uncomfortable circumstance), they did not fear, for they trusts their Abba. That is the sort of faith we should have toward our heavenly Father, too.

Have you ever noticed that religion makes a relationship with God complicated. Religion thrives on creating more and more rules. Religion loves to put road bumps on the spiritual journey. Loves to send out its police offers to issue citations and even put some in jail. Religion loves to keep your feet on the ground rather than calling you to walk on water. Religion has faith in itself and not faith in the father. Religion trades away love for the Father to gain love for itself. Religion is the greatest enemy of faith.

The greatest friend of faith is child-likeness. This has to be distinguished from childishness. Childishness is marked by a lack of maturity, volatility and inconsistency. Childlikeness is an attitude of simple trust and hope. You will know when you have a a child-like faith because the stormy waters of your life will become calm. You are not worried about outcomes, you are at peace with each next step on the journey.

Childlike faith is the key to great spiritual victory. After watching Tom Brady and the New England Patriots pull off the most improbable comeback in sports history at the Super Bowel (LI), Tom Brady credited his team’s victory to their mentally tough attitude. What did Tom Brady mean by mentally tough? He said on his instagram account after the game, “Man is a thinking reed, but his great works are done when he is not calculating and thinking. 'Childlikeness' has to be restored...” (As quoted in Inc. Magazine, Feb. 2017, “This Is the Book Tom Brady Hails for His Unshakable Mental Toughness”)

Whether you are taking a page out of Brady's book or the Psalmist book: When faith is childlike, you can be confident that victory is ahead.

Bracha

May the Lord God of Israel restore to you the joy of your salvation. May He return back to you a childlike faith. A simple trust and devotion to God. May you experience the soul refreshing life of God as you live out of a renewed childlike faith.
