Scripture

o base thing will I set before my eyes. Twisted behavior I hate— it will not cling to me. - Psalm 101:3 TLV

There are over 500 TV channels and with the advent of YouTube channels add another 500 Million watching options beside the casual viewing options on the internet. Do you know that according to TV Guide 91% of relationships are outside of marriage on television. The Journal called Scientific America stood behind a survey that said the number one factor contributing to spousal infidelity and divorce is the television.

If you are watching shows filled with violence, filled with getting ahead by stabbing people in the back, filled with highly sexualized content. Eventually you will become what you feed yourself.

You see as you watch shows filled with this kind of content the shock value wears off and it will not mean much to you. That is, until you are in front of your children, someone else's kids, or a rabbi comes to your house. That is why people will scurry to turn things off when children or someone they think is spiritual walks into the room because they know deep down, it should be shocking and I should not be setting this before my eyes or before anybody’s eyes. Can I give you a good rule of thumb about Television, if it would make your 8 year old daughter or son uncomfortable and horrified you should be avoiding it like the plague.

Remember, King David let his guard down. He set his eyes on a woman on a roof. He could have changed the channel. He could have looked away but he decided to let his thoughts drift.

Rabbi Paul says, “Don’t give the Devil that kind of foothold in your life.” In the first message of this series I made the statement based off of1 John 5:8 that if you are God-Begotten you are God-Protected. The enemy can't touch you but you can give him a foothold. You can surrender your victory to him, you can compromise your heart to him by setting your eyes on “base things” and on “twisted behavior.” Or, you can be highly selective in what you watch. Or, you can just turn the television off and fast from it for a period of time. If you do that and dedicate your mind to those things that are pure, love and of good report (Phil 4:8) I promise you will begin to see God do amazing things in your life.

Bracha

May the Lord God of Israel encourage your heart today to close down any foothold our enemy might have in your life. May you boldly say like the psalmist that you will not set your eyes on base things and crooked and twisted behavior.

For the Feed

Remember, King David let his guard down. He set his eyes on a woman on a roof. He could have changed the channel. He could have looked away but he decided to let his thoughts drift. He reaped what he sowed, more than he sowed and could not undo what he sowed.
