Don’t you know that in a stadium the runners all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win! - 1 Corinthians 9:24 TLV
When my son Seth was struggling with math I decided to use a double attack on the problem. First, was the practical. I would “sharpen the saw” by doing math drills that would make his mind sharp in math. Second, was the spiritual. At night, I would declare over him, "You fear the Lord and you have wisdom, understanding, knowledge. You have a sharp mind, a disciplined mind, the mind of a champion. You are more than a conqueror of math because of Messiah who loves you and can do great in math."
Every night, Lauren and I would sharpen the saw of his math skills and I would sharpen the saw of his spiritual life. We were helping him in run so that he could win!
Then a couple of weeks later I saw his math test sitting on the counter. His grade had jumped up higher. Something caught my eye besides his improved grade. At the top of his test I saw he had written the words, "I can do it." I asked him about this and he said, "Abba, when I got my test I prayed like you pray over me - declaring God’s victory - and then I wrote this on the top of my test as my declaration.
When my son started thinking like a winner he was training for the win. He was training for the test day to win. There are many believers who are not experiencing victory, blessing or God’s favor because they don’t train their minds to think like a winner. They don’t declare God’s blessing, goodness, testimonies or favor over their life, spouses, children and career.
Take time today to declare God’s promises
I declare today that
- my children will be blessed on the earth (Psalm 112:1-2;Josh 14:9),
- my enemies will not get near me (Deut 28:7),
- my finances will be blessed (Mal 3:10-11)
- my strength will be God’s joy (Neh 8:10).
- I choose life (Deut 30:9), I am the head not the tail, the leader not the led, the influencer not the influenced, I will lend to many but borrow from none (Deut 28:13).
