he unfolding of Your words gives light, giving understanding to the simple. - Psalm 119:130

Heart Thoughts

Have you ever had an “ah-ha” moment? You know that moment when you suddenly realize something you have known all along but now it makes sense or has become even clearer? I had an ah-ha moment when I was watching the most recent edition of Star Wars, The last Jedi. The main charachter Finn is about to sacrifice his life for the noble cause of the rebellion. He planned to crash his ship into the first-order’s large cannon and hold off their attack by sacrificing his life. All of the sudden, another ship driven by Finn’s sidekick in this movie, Rose, knocks him off course and ruins his plans of martyrdom. tRose saves him, a point she makes very clear when he tries to berate her for “stopping” him. And she tells Finn that the Resistance won’t win by fighting the things they hate—they will win by saving what they love. That was my “ah-ha” moment.

All of the sudden it was like I saw John 3:16-17 in a whole new light.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him." - John 3:16-17

I suddenly understood that God was not trying to build his Kingdom by destroying what he hated but by sending His son to save what he loved. He was loving and not condemning. That “ah-ha” moment made me re-evaluate my entire perspective as a follower of Messiah. I kept asking myself the question, “Do I spend my time destroying what I hate or trying to save what the Father loves?”

I realized that those who are busy destroying what they think the Father hates often become rigid, myopic in their thinking, legalistic and unable to lay aside petty differences. Yet, when I started to reflect on people that were busy trying to save what God loves I noticed those people were forgiving to a fault, generous all day long, had a cup always running over, seemed to move through life freely and gracefully.

In that one moment, God opened up His Word to me and gave my mind understanding. The kind of understanding that improved not just what I knew but how I lived. That is fresh illumination. He wants to give fresh illumination to every person who asks Him. It may not come through a Star Wars Movie but God will use the heavens above, nature, a child, your spouse, a song, or something you read in the word to unfold His Word before you as long as you remain a seeker of truth and desperate for the light.

May the Lord God of Israel open your spiritual eyes to behold wonderful things from His Word. May the opening of His Word before your eyes show you the path you are to walk in to prosper and advance His Kingdom.
