Day 8

Psalm 44:5 Through You we push back our foes. Through Your Name we trample those rising up against us.

Heart Thoughts

Have you ever had a day when everything seemed to go wrong? Have you ever had a day where it felt like no matter what you tried to do everything seemed to get turned upside down around you?

I have had days when it seemed as though there was an invisible wall of pressure against me. I have said to my wife, Lauren, during these times, “A spirit of confusion is here. Everything seems to be a flop and go wrong.” When this happens, I have learned this is not just bad circumstances but a very real and present enemy.

Rabbi Paul says in 2 Corinthians 2:11, “that we might not be outwitted by satan—for we are not ignorant of his schemes.” We know that there is very real enemy that prowls around like a lion. He schemes constantly. That means he is constantly plotting lies, hatching confusion and trying to tempt you to sin and disobedience.

Yet, we are not left without a defense. We are not victims to the evil one, we are conquerors over the evil one. We are assured that the one who lives in us is greater than the one who lives in the world (1 John 4:4). When you call upon the Name of El Elyon, the one who overrules your enemies, you can push back your enemy and trample on him when he rises up against you.

Don’t give up until you see the victory. In Psalm 44:5 the verbs convey an ongoing action. In other words, you have to keep pushing back and keep trampling on the head of the evil one. He will not always give up easily so neither should you. Call on His Name until the darkness breaks into dawn and victory begins to appear. Call on his name until that problem, that confusion, that wall moves out of your way.

Bracha

May El Elyon the one who overrules your enemies strengthen you today. May He empower you with might and confidence in your inner man to keep pushing through until you experience victory in your life.
