“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Then there will be food in My House. Now test Me in this ”—says Adonai-Tzva’ot - “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven, and pour out blessing for you, until no one is without enough.” (Malachi 3:10, TLV)
All of us have at least one thing that when it appears before us at just the right time our ability to say “no” vanishes into thin air. This morning I rose early to get my children their favorite breakfast: donuts. While their growing bodies can process this sugary delicacy in a matter of hours my forty-one-year body feels like it could take 6 months to a year to process this nightmare. So, I resisted the temptation to feast for a solid 3 hours but then the craving hit, the smell of sugar became intoxicating, and I caved. The donut never tasted better, so I had a second!
God wants us to have a desire for tithing (giving a 10th of our income) just like my desire for a donut. While we may be tempted by many things that changes our “no” into a “yes.” We may have said “no” to that new TV, new Car, new Phone, new…, eventually something happened and the desire for the new became so strong that it seemed like the best option in the world was to simply say “yes.” We all know what it is like to change our financial mind and heart from a “no” to a “yes.”
God wants us to so desire His financial blessing so much that it changes our “no” to tithing into our “yes” to tithing. He even says He is willing to switch roles with us. He becomes the student taking the test and you become the teacher giving the exam. Or to use financial terms, He becomes the investee/broker and you the investor. What a reverse in roles! He promises that He is so good at investing 10% of your income that it will result in a blessing so bountiful that you will not have enough space to contain it.
These are not infomercial grandiose promises, God has an amazing track record, a great resume. Remember, when Israel left Egypt it says that Egyptians poured out their wealth upon the Israelites as they left Egypt. That wealth was so large that when God called for the Tabernacle to be constructed Moses had to tell people to stop giving! Can you imagine that. That is what it looks like when the blessing is large that it is almost embarrassing causing your cheeks to blush just thinking about it.
Remember, with God in control of your financial future the forecast looks great! Let today be the day that your “no” to tithing vanished into thin air and becomes a “yes” to this incredible switching of roles so that you can experience the super-abundant blessing of God in your life.
May the Lord God of Israel’s hope and blessing open wide the eyes of your heart and the sniffer of your soul so that you will be overwhelmed by the satisfying smell of God’s promise to bless your financial future. In your faithfulness to give the tithe to Adonai, may He open up the windows of heaven and pour a blessing out on you that causes your cheeks to blush and your hands to go up in the air in praise! May He multiply your seed and bring about an abundant harvest.
